Our visits to Lombok

Ahead of starting design work, we spent time on the island with the client and local collaborators. The aim was to understand how building really happens in Lombok – climate, material, local making – and to meet architects, builders and craftspeople to see how we might work together. Orientation, breeze, shade and an honest palette of local, workable materials are already emerging as key drivers for the project.

Design ambition

The client’s ambition aligns closely with ours: a sensitive, context-led and landscape-led approach that allows the architecture to sit within the terrain rather than on top of it. The villas and shared spaces are conceived as simple, carefully detailed forms that harness local materials and construction knowledge, creating quiet, generous places that feel rooted in Lombok.
