Selong Bay
Lombok, Indonesia
Selong Bay is a new build villa project on the south coast of Lombok, Indonesia — one of the most naturally beautiful coastlines in South East Asia. The site sits above the bay with views across the Indian Ocean, and the design responds directly to this extraordinary setting: open, cross-ventilated, deeply shaded, and oriented to capture the prevailing breeze and the changing quality of light throughout the day.
The project represents JHA's ongoing commitment to working internationally. We believe that good architecture is not geography-dependent — the same rigour, the same care for material quality and the same respect for context that defines our London work applies equally to a hillside site in Indonesia. Working remotely demands clear communication, precise documentation and trusted local partnerships, all of which we have developed through this project.
The brief centred on creating a home that felt genuinely embedded in its landscape — not imported from elsewhere, but shaped by the climate, the vegetation and the culture of the place. Locally sourced stone, timber and terracotta sit alongside carefully considered glazing and shading systems that manage the tropical sun without closing the building off from its surroundings.
JHA works with private residential clients across the UK, Europe, South East Asia and Australia. If you are considering a project internationally and are looking for a London-based practice with experience delivering architecture remotely, we would be very happy to discuss your brief.
