The Context
The site sits within the setting of a conservation area, requiring a careful architectural response. The challenge was to create a new home that felt confident and contemporary, while respecting the scale, character and rhythm of the surrounding context.

Our Approach
Our design process focused on massing, proportion, materiality and the relationship between the house and its surroundings. We tested options carefully to ensure the proposal responded to planning sensitivities while also delivering a home full of light, strong spatial flow and long-term adaptability.

Planning and Design Response
Rather than seeing the planning context as a restriction alone, we used it as a framework to shape a more disciplined and resolved scheme. The design was developed to sit comfortably within its setting without resorting to imitation, creating a house that feels rooted in place but clearly of its time.

Spatial Quality
Internally, the project was shaped around contemporary living: generous natural light, strong connections between spaces, and a careful relationship between architecture and everyday use. The aim was to create a home that feels calm, elegant and robust, while also protecting long-term value.

The Value of the Architect
This project reflects the wider role of the architect beyond appearance alone. It involved balancing design ambition with planning sensitivity, spatial quality, technical coordination and long-term thinking. Through careful design and project leadership, the house becomes not just a well-composed home, but a more valuable and enduring asset.
